Obituary for Benjamin JOHNSTON

Born in Edmonton (where his childhood nickname was “Bunty”), Art passed away peacefully in Comox BC on Monday, Dec. 11. He will be missed by his wife Joy (née Habens); children, Hilary (Les Shiell) & Brock (Karin [née Huissman]); & four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Norman.

Art served aboard HMCS Prince David on D-Day and later in the Mediterranean. Together with his business partner, Charlie Styles, Art cofounded Mayfair Dental Lab. He was active in the Unitarian Church of Edmonton and, after 1974, in the Comox Valley Unitarian Fellowship. He and his wife Joy owned and operated Killarney Resort at Saratoga Beach on Vancouver Island for twenty years.

Canada was not ready for the green burial Art requested. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will be held Fri. Dec. 29 at 3:00 P.M. Comox United Church, 250 Beach Dr, Comox, BC V9M 1P9. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to one of Art’s favorite charities:

The Nature Conservancy of Canada; Child Haven International, Diamond Jubilee Endowment Fund; USC Canada; Egale Canada - Human Rights Trust; Medecins Sans Frontières, Canada .
