Darren "Tom" OLSON
Darren a.k.a Tom, was born and grew up in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), lived in Manitoba, and over the past few years has called Campbell River BC home. He is survived by his sisters Lee-Anne (Nigal) Reinbott and Lynette (Chris) Emert and nieces Tia Rose and Jesse Jordan Emert. His parents Marilynn (Lynn) Olson and Brian Olson are predeceased.
When Darren was a boy he was especially close to his Grandparents Urho and Frieda Jarvi and loved the outdoors and being active! He grew up at camp swimming in Lake Superior , learning to hunt , playing guitar , playing hockey and learning Karate!
Whilst his high school career was short-lived at St Patrick's High and Westgate - he was especially proud of his time in the service from 1985-1992. Fondly known as Oly, he served in the LSSR, 2 RCR and 3 RCR - was stationed in Germany and served in the Gulf War. He had earned his parachute wings and received awards for marksmanship. He always spoke of his life long friends and brothers in arms.
Darren was a gifted and talented novice writer/author always working on lyrics or a short story. He had a love for animals and his cats held a special place in his heart he would even take them on the road with him when he was trucking!
He was enrolled in a Welding course and was very close to finishing his Heavy Mechanical Foundation program whilst working maintenance at the Chances Casino in Campbell River on weekends.
Currently, his passion came from riding his motorcycle with his veteran buddies, the C ommandos and recently becoming their Sergeant at Arms
Darren will be sorely missed by all those in and around his world.
A Celebration of Darren's Life will be held at the Carriage Room above the Royal Coachman Pub at 11:30am, Sunday, November 26th. All who knew and remember our brother are welcome to come share stories and memories.
